My paid tax lien is reporting on one of the CRA's records. I noticed it has some wrong information on it. It reports Date Paid as 07/04. 07/04 is actually the date I went to the courthouse (TX) and filed the Certificate of Release of Federal Tax Lien in the County Clerk's office. I didn't find out I needed to file the certificate until a couple of years after I paid off the tax lien. I have already disputed as "wrong date" without explaining to the CRA any details. Anyone else had similar problems or offer advice? It appears they may have no way of determining the actual paid date.
If this is an IRS lien, then the IRS should have the date you paid the lien (in full) on record. If you paid by check or certified check, I hope you kept the cleared check, or copy of the certified check. I would just call the IRS, or if you have an office close to you, visit them in person and track down the actual date paid. They will report the actual date paid to the CRAs. As for the release of lien, generally the IRS does this also. I'm suprised you had to file it with your local courthouse. You may want to dig here, you may have a mistake by the IRS which may help you in getting this TL removed. Good Luck....
