I have an account that I paid in full that is still reporting as a charge off. When I set up payments with this creditor - I paid the full balance I owed (not a settled amount) in 3 months (a large payment every month for 3 months to pay it off). I was told that if I paid it - rather than letting it be a charge off, that they would report it as "paid as agreed". However that has not been the case. This account has been closed & paid in full, yet they are still reporting to the credit bureaus every month that it is a charge off. How is this possible? And if that is possible, what was the point in paying if off rather then leaving it as a charge off? It seems to report the same either way.
Does anyone know how I can get them to at least stop reporting it every month & just leave it as is. Or even better - how to get them to say "paid as agreed" as they said they would (I did not get this in writing). I have called the creditor - they were rude & claimed they can not do anything. Although I know that is not the case. Any help please??? Much thanks!

    hmmm...

this is sticky. since you didn't get anything in writing, you have very little to use to prove your case. usually, once they get their money, they don't care.

in my eyes, your best bet is to try to remember when you called and who you spoke with at their company. you can also launch an investigation with the credit reporting agencies (TU, EX, EQ) and at least show that it has been paid. you can try to say that it should be paid as agreed but this will probably do little.

your best bet is to try to get a letter from the original creditor which shows that you made a "paid as agreed" deal.

    maybe someone else has suggestions???

2*Because that's exactly what it is. A charge off is a charge off is a charge off Paid or unpaid. Simply paying it doesn't make it go away.
    3* None first lesson learned.
