I'm going to be paying off some old creditors and am wondering what is the best to use, money order, cashiers check, Western Union?

I personally like to use a cashiers check- you have a direct record of the transaction with your bank and they are much more willing to give you copies of the cancelled check if any question comes up later. MOs are much, much harder to trace.

Anything but a personal check, IMO. Just keep your paperwork. Money orders, WU, and cashier's checks can all be tracked and proven if you have all the information to track them.

Plus with a personal check, they have your bank's routing/ABA number and your account number...with that they have the ability to pull an ACH withdrawal directly from your account and too fast for you to notice or do anything about. I admit it would be illegal, unscrupulous and worthy of a lawsuit...but it is possible and I would put nothing past the tactics of some CA's, not all, but certainly some.

I would send WU (they have an excellent online system to handle payments to CA's) or with MO rather than a personal check if you must pay.
