paying off credit card debt

    should you pay off you credit card debt or pay it down to a percentage to gain a better fico?

    Yes. utilization ratios are a FICO determinate. I ddin't save the site but last summer, I saw a trade group report that said the average consumer who carried a balance used only 22% of available credit. So, if you've appreciably above that level, it is likely hurting your scores.

    I don't know how accurate the simulator is on Myfico but when I calculated paying off vs paying down (15 - 50%) it came up with a 23 point difference in favor of paying a percentage off only. So that leads me to think it's better to show a percentage. I've read so many different limits for best utilization factors also, usually around 20 - 26%.
