Hello Folks! I have started lurking around this board recently in hopes of finding info to help me clean up the mess I have made of my credit report. I have a number of charge off's on my report as well as a few accounts in collections. All of these accounts are a few years old. I have basically ignored them for the past few years. NOW I am tired of ignoring them and want to tackle this head on. From reading this board I know that most people think that it is best to do this on your own, However I have decided to enlist Lexington to help me get started. Hopefully after a few months I can just take over myself. In the meantime I received a letter from RISK MANAGEMENT ALTERNATIVES in regards to a FILENES credit card that I used to have. They offered a settlement of $298 for the $596 that I owed. I decided that was a good deal. I called them and asked them what my credit report would say regarding this once they received my $. The answer I got was "Settled in Full". I thought "GREAT!". So I told them I would send them a check and verified with them that they would send me a receipt. NOW after lurking on the board today I realize I may have made a big mistake. I probably should have asked for this agreement as to what the credit report would be changed to in writing before agreeing to the settlement. Whats the chance that they will actually change this as they stated? Any ideas on what I should do? I really want to pay this and move on to my other credit report probems! Thanks!
