    Hey ya'll,
My husband has an collection on his report from a leftover balance on a utility from 2006.
We do owe the money so I thought the first step would be to attempt a Payment by Deletion letter. Should I send the letter to the OC (the utility co) or the collection agency?
    Any advice is appreciated.

hi, i am new to this so please read the sticky and confirm my advice with someone more knowledgeable than me. before you send a payment for deletion. dispute the collection with the credit report agency. hopefully after the CRA does an investigation the collection agency wont respond then will will be deleted and you wont have to pay anything.

You still owe the amount. The collection agency is likely going to verify if it's a current account.

You might want to contact the utility company and ask if they can pull the account back from the CA if you pay them directly. It will depend on whether they've sold or assigned the account what they'll say.

Post back and let us know.

Never hurts to ask . . . if they won't do a pay for delete then dispute it through the credit reporting agencies.
