I've got an installment loan, still open with MBNA, which is now my most negative item. It's got 1 90 day, 2 60 day and 6 30 day lates. I've tried disputing to no avail. I've seen people here have successfully negotiated deletions when they pay off collection accounts and chargeoffs. Anyone ever try this with an account that is current? I only owe about $1900 on the loan (it was for a computer) and I could pay it off now if it would improve my score. Does anyone know whether a closed account with late payments that is paid in fuill is less negative than one with the same history that still shows a current (not past due) balance?

I would suggest making regular payments, and sending a goodwill letter. If you've been regular for a good amount of time, they may be willing to help you out.
