Payoff?

Ok, I will try to explain this situation with hopes for advice on what I should do. I am torn on whether to just pay it off (I'd like to qualify for a mortgage soon), or try to fight it off, or wait for it to fall off in 14 months.

I have a CA for an old PacBell account (2/1998) for which I just received validation from the CA. They enclosed a copy of a computer printout of the old bill. I understand that technically this account is no longer collectible (beyond 4 year SOL). The principal is $187.35 and the late payment charges are $181.91 (from CA I'm assuming because this is not listed on the bill), totaling $369.26.

PacBell (which is technically now called SBC not PacBell.) has no record of my account when I tried to find out about it using their automated system. Does this likely mean that they sold this account to the CA? If so, and I'd like to negotiate a settlement, how much should I offer CA?

Also, the TL has an incorrect DOLA(6/2000), how should I go about getting this corrected? Do they do this intentionally to make it seem like it's within the SOL? Their own validation that they sent dates it 2/1998.

thanks so much for all of your help!!!

    1* This isn't validation.
2*Then you don't have to pay it.
3*What account? No record No Account. So you still don't have to pay it.
    4*$O.00 it's an illegal bill.
5*What DOLA. There is none on for an alleged bill that has no records!
    6*You got it.
7*There is no such thing as Their own validation !
