For anyone that has a paypal account -- apparently they have started pulling random HARDS on their customers. It has already happened to someone over on the fatwallet forums. Paypal is saying that it is to prevent fraud and that it is in the member agreement, as revised: 14.2 Credit Report. You agree that PayPal may order and review your credit report with the sole purpose of assessing your fitness to hold a PayPal account and/or your ability to use the Service or features thereof. Should be a SOFT, not a HARD if anything!!! $1000 violations here we come, or not???
Which one (CR) are they hitting or is it totally random? I've got two Paypal account so I'm NOT going to be happy if they hit me with two hards.
Probably not...you gave them permission, and: The FCRA does not distinguish between hards and softs, they only differentiate inquiries and promotional inquiries. Sorry...
Permission was not given initially, you need to agree to revised terms by checking a box upon log in. As long as I don't check that box -- if they have pulled a hard I can get $1K violation, correct?
FILE ON THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EITHER PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS @ $1,000 PER CUSTOMER...OR THEY WILL STOP THEIR "HARD" INQUIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO PP THERE (outside the realm of logic--even if it is in the fine print)--NO BRAINER
Wow...As if I didn't already have enough reason to hate PayPal. What triggers the pull? Moving a lot of money at once? I only use my account for fleebay, but if they want to start playing games like this, my account is gone.
Supposedly they are pulling the hards on EQ...haven't checked mine yet. The OP over on Fatwallet said he has had a Paypal acct for the past three years and they pulled a hard on him last week!
Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!!!!!! Check the ebay boards...there's a thread over there about it as well (and a number of nitwits providing their 2 cents). One even said they had the right to pull "because they're trusting that you'll deliver the merchandise to said buyer" (LOL) Another one is spouting off that the hard inquiry is irrelevant and will drop off after 90 days (double LOL)
Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!!!!!! No hard or soft on EQ for me yet... It's amazing how many people will say that they are the "all knowing force in credit issues" and mislead people in so many ways. I know we all here at Creditnet certainly aren't "all-knowing" but some of tyhe things I have read/heard elsewhere regarding credit are truly disturbing.
Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!!!!!! Had a similar situation at Amazon, purchased a T-Mobile Sidekick..they pulled hard for service...and never had the sidekick in stock and were not getting any more in. So, it was an inquiry for absolutely nothing.. Anyway, no one even seemed to notice..it's sad how much the average person doesn't know about this... I got it removed..but so many didn't.
Re: Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!! (mmph) "JEEEEEEEEEZ, it's just a credit inquiry...what are you getting so worked up about...I've probably got a couple hundred of them and it hasn't hurt meeeeeeeeeeee" (meanwhile they wonder why they're paying 30% on their credit cards and can't get a mortgage or a car loan) sound like the average nitwit?
Re: Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!! Quote from someone who is "all-knowing": "You can apply for whatever you want, as many times as you want and that has no impact on your credit scores whatsoever. The inquiry only shows up if you are approved, and even then it has no bearing on the score. What you have to watch out for is pulling your own credit report, 'cause those count against you! You should only check your own credit every 2 years or so for this reason. Also, credit cards are evil so don't ever have more than two or three in your name and on those, make sure that one is always maxed out since that will show that you are using your credit well. You never want to have your balance spread across more than one accounts, because it will hurt your score if they find out you are using more than one card at the same time." IGNORANCE IS BLISS...
Re: Re: Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!! NO CREDIT APPLICATION--NO INQUIRY!!! "JUST ONE" is a bogus reason to just let it SLIDE!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!! I have a paypal account and when I signed up I never had to give them a social security number. How can they pull a report without it? I have a common name so how would they weed out with "Jane Doe" I am?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: PAYPAL pulling HARDS!!! I read that ebay thread..outrageous info in there..scary as all heck...
