My brother who is 19 and has hardly any credit was victimized by this company. I feel parlty to blame because I glanced at it and thinking it was peoplesfirst.com, said yeah, thats good. These guys ask for 49.95 application fee, then you never see them again. It has been two months now and nothing. Call them and they dont answer or hang up. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do. What regulations do they fall under. They give you the 5k credit limit, but you can only use it to get things out of their catalog, thats if you get the card. Please help..
Something like that, you should probably refer to your State Attorney General. Anyone know anywhere else? BBB? I'll run a line on the company for you, and see what I can find.
What phone number and address do they give you? I know it's probably phony, but I need it anyway. Also, do they list a web address? Is there a postmark on the envelope? Any other specific info?
"REAL" CREDIT CARD COMPANIES WILL CHARGE YOUR ANNUAL FEE TO YOUR FIRST BILL... RED FLAG MUST PAY OUT OF YOUR CHECKING TODAY!!!
Quigs, here's what I found. Looks like the info in the Scam Forum may be outdated. This info is dated 4-2002. Peoples Credit First, LLC 4620 N. Hale Avenue Tampa, FL 33614 813-877-7423 Mailing address: same Federal Employer ID#59-3728236 Registered agent: James W. Goodwin, ESQ. 400 N. Tampa St., Suite 2300 Tampa, FL 33601 Looks like Goodwin is with the firm of Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, phone 813-273-4304. Fax 813-273-4396. Goodwin's direct line appears to be 813-273-4337. President is Julie Connell. If the agent isn't available for service of process on a small claims suit or they don't sign for cert. mail, I have her home address and phone number (but don't want to post it on a public forum, even though they are clearly scum and it's freely available on the web). Also, you might want to check out this link http://badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?id=13224 for information on how to get your money back. Scroll down to the "Rebuttal" section for what sounds like the best advice. Also, you should know that the reason you haven't heard from them in 2 mos is that that is apparently how long you have to contact your bank to get your money back (or so it says on the linked page). They won't contact you until that time limit passes because they know that. If it hasn't been 60 days yet, definitely check out the link above and contact your bank. And definitely file a complaint with the FL AG and your AG. Let me know if you need anything else.

File a lawsuit with your local small claim court.make sure you have the name of the company,s registered agent when you go there.
I think Florida has a law that makes it illegal to charge an upfront fee to someone before granting credit. It is regulated by the State Comptrollers office, Department of Banking and Finance. Call their office in Tampa. If you are in Tampa, it is in the state building. If you are elsewhere in Florida, they have offices all over the state. The bad news is that the voters decided to eliminate that agency, effective this year sometime. They will still be around, but under another agency. So act quickly. They may not be there next week. I have a lot fo friends there and they have no idea when the agency ceases to exist. Very tough, not knowing wheter you will have a job next week or not.
I've updated the information in the Credit Alerts forum accordingly. Thanks for the heads-up to you both. Sincerely, pbm
