OK, got a car loan through peoplesfirst. However, I have had at least one dealer tell me that they don't work with them due to non payment. Anyone got any experience with them?

I don't know if this is the same thing but on http://www.ripoffreport.com/ many people report that Peoples Credit First is a rip off. This may be different or just another rip off company.

I use to work for a bank and if the dealership will not take them it should tell you something. There are places out there that do not pay and you end up paying on your credit. Try to get a loan through someone else. If you have not so good scores you may want to try Fairlane Credit or Household Bank.

My loan is through People First (a division of Cap One) and the whole thing was as smooth as could be. People might be complaining because they didn't follow all of the instructions that are supplied.

They send you a blank check and you have to make the check out to the dealer. They have a number of rules about the car you buy which is probably why people feel things didn't work out:

    1) You must buy from a dealer. No Brand X car lots.
    2) If you buy a used car, it can't have more then 60,000 miles and be earlier then 1996 or something along those lines.
    3) You have to fax in a paystub and some other stuff before you use the check.

I thought it worked out rather well and they gave me a decent interest rate.

Thanks HoustonGuy (I am in Houston too). I have had one dealer tell me no, one dealer tell me ok, but we have to wait for the check to clear, and one to tell me yes.

It seems to me that they want you to use their in house financing and don't want to turn in the peoplesfirst paperwork in a timely manner.

PeoplesFirst does not report to any of the CRAs. My hubby refinanced his his GMAC account with them in 6/00 in 4/02 he wanted to refinance with E-Loan to a 6.4 on used vehicles but was declined due to the fact that PeoplesFirst does not report. Other then not reporting he has no problems. He has a 7.9 on a 95 Blazer. Good Luck

I would see if maybe they're reporting it incorrectly. I have a PeopleFirst loan and it shows on all 3 bureaus. Of course, they are a division of Cap One and they have an odd way of looking at things.
