What's the best way to go about getting old personal info removed? I have contacted Experian and they said that if it is accurate it must stay on. Is the best thing to dispute it and say that I've never lived at that address? Also I disputed an item with Experian some time ago (several months) and am trying to redispute it again, however they will not let me. Is there a time frame that has to pass before I can dispute it again? Or are they allowed to hold out indefinitely?
How old is the personal info you're trying to remove? If it is less than 3 years old, it is often difficult to get removed. It is usually best to request removal of personal info in writing, sent Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested (CMRRR). I would not dispute syaing that you never lived there, if indeed you have. Keep in mind that if the old address was one you had with active tradelines, then the data furnishers may keep updating this old address. Regarding the verified dispute, you will have to dispute it again under a different reason or error. It will help if you have any "evidence" of the error. You are allowed to request a re-investigation, but too much time has past to do this now. Review the tradeline, and look for any error, and dispute that error in specific. If you dispute for another reason (from your original dispute), or you provide additional information, they must reinvestigate per the FCRA.
For EQ and TU, I have found it fastest and easiest to call them, give them my Report number, and tell them I never lived there, please delete the address. EQ will do it, but the new (800) INDIA people answering the calls at TU now have been trained to argue with customers about removing addresses. They are making it difficult lately to dispute/delete personal information. So for EXP and TU it is often best to use the US Mails. EXP will do it online IF the address is not tied to a reporting account.
