I PFB'd Capitol One about my gold card about a week ago. I only had 200.00 limit so i bitched and they increased to 500.00 with same shitty interest rate 18.9%. So i said well that was easy why not send another PFB about upgrading my gold to platinum and 1000.00 cl so i can bt about 700.00 from these other 2 cards and this is the response i got.. does this mean no!!!

If I were to take a guess, I would say it means no. Creditors are required to send out a letter whenever an adverse decision is made (like a CL increase request decline).

I just talked to Mr. Cooke this afternoon, although I had to cut him short (I had someone on hold @ work). Very nice guy. I'm supposed to call him tomorrow to discuss my inquiry. I applied for a second acct with Cap1, unsecured, and was approved for a $500 line with a $49 security deposit. My beef is to just waive the stupid $50 and issue me a $500 unsecured. Hell, they already have $300 on deposit from me right now. Never a late pay, don't even carry a balance. Wish me luck. :)

In a letter I received from Mr Cooke he put down "we ask that you wait at least six months before requesting further annual percentage rate and credit limit adjustments"

I spoke with Mr. Cooke personally, and he gave me the LOC increase I wanted plus a little extra. He's a great guy. Please don't say anything negative about him...it's just not true. He's #1 in my book. Give the man a chance; you will not be disappointed.

I had a similar situation. Approved for a partially secured card same terms as yours. I asked him to open it as unsecured, and he wouldn't do it. BTW, I have a current account with them which is 1.5 years old, perfect history. Didn't seem to make a difference.

Good luck to you all the same :) Keep me posted if he does it for you.

I sent a PFB, and even left him a voicemail about a week ago, and still haven't heard back from him yet...does he have a long backlog or what??

I PFB Mr Cooke in early February and did not hear from him till the end of February. I think he has been very busy lately. He seems to respond by phone, e-mail, or U.S. mail. Mr Cooke is the best !!!!!!!

I told him what he can do with his $325-$3,250 limit "ALREADY APPROVED" GOLD card
    offer @ $72.00/year...

He told me to apply on-line for the PLATINUM card...I DIDN'T!!!

I'm thinking news has spread that you can PFB Cap1 and get whatever you need via Mr. Cooke, which is probably why it's getting increasingly difficult for him to get back to you all in a timely manner. Most CC companies don't even have a consumer advocate who's willing to negotiate. It seems to me that some people are abusing the privilege and Mr. Cooke's position, in my opinion, and I wouldn't be surprised if Cap 1 eventually figures it's just not worth it. This is exactly why other card companies just say no! It's a proven fact you can catch more flies with honey. Perhaps a different attitude will get you more of what you want. I don't know...just my 2 cents worth. Mr. Cooke is g-r-e-a-t!

Interesting stuff. I am going to PF to him soon and ask for an apr. reduction on both of my cards. Currently 14.9 interest.

For those that are waiting for a response from him, he told me yesterday that he was on a short hiatus last week and he's trying to catch up right now.

Very nice guy; he truly cares about the customers at cap1.

Okay so an update on my conversation with Mr. Cooke this afternoon....

He was unable to override their counteroffer for the secured card, which I was okay with. Instead, he doubled my credit line on my existing account. How nice!

Three months ago when I started my credit journey my reports were junk and I had $200 in credit. Now my reports still look like junk (I'm working on it...) but now I'm up to $1400 in credit. I'm hoping this helps my scores, in addition to the rest of the 'clean-up' I'm doing.

Baby steps, I know, but it's progress and I'm satisfied....
