I have a customer service beef with Target I would like to write thru PFB. They refused to take their merchandise back (return of new item, no receipt) they offered me $10 for a $69.00 item . Paid cash, can't find receipt. Does PFB work for this??
    Thanks!

I work for Target. Did you call the Guest Relations number? THey should have given you an 800 number to call, and unfortunately, the policy clearly states on all receipts and right behind the service desk, that All Returns Require Receipts. It's been that way since November.

The fact that they offered you $10 shows you that they would be willing to work with you. Was the item defective?

Target doesn't have to return anything.

I'm sorry, and I know that this is not what you wanted to hear, but it's the way it is. REmember to keep your receipts, and try to pay with a form other than cash. We can look up receipts in our system for up to 90 days if the form of payment is anything but cash.

    NO (but you can try).

TARGET has 90 days with a receipt or gift receipt...

K-MART is going to, or has already copied...90 days RECEIPT REQUIRED...

I hate to say this since I work retail...but because people take stuff with-out paying, and buy stuff at garage sales and try to return for FULL PRICE, things had to change.
Now retail is a VIDEO RENTAL STORE...you buy a movie and watch it for free, and return it.
You "rent" a shirt and pants for a week, then return it.

BECAUSE OF THE <1% "BAD" PEOPLE, EVERYBODY SUFFERS.

AMEX HAS A PROGRAM WITH SOME OF THEIR CARDS, IF THE STORE WON'T TAKE IT BACK, AMEX WILL...

Not only because of what you said, George, but Bad People have been known to go to the sales floor, pick out some video games and try to return them for cash at the service desk. It's called an "off the floor refund". Equivalent to shoplifting. THAT is why the policy HAD to change. The bad people ruined it for everyone.

Again, I know that what I said is not what you wanted to hear, tommyy, but it is the way it is.

Thanks George and Erica. I can understand the issues with the thugs who do these things. This is just another example of a honest person, who likes to pay with cash most of the time, getting screwed because of thieves. I wish the Service Rep would have explained this to me in the first place. I was very professional with her so I'm not sure why she was short and rude with me. Probably because I was the 20th guy that day trying to do this I suppose.

Erica, the item is brand new never out of the box!

Is there any way that you can recycle the item? (ie. give it as a gift) I mean, that is the only thing I can think of, other than finding the receipt.

Can I sugest you get a credit card that has on-line payments, or like TARGET VISA, MERVYNS, or SEARS (pay at the store)...before you are actually sent a statement, pay-in-full...
NOT EXACTLY PAYING IN CASH...BUT CLOSE.

I NEVER pay in cash so I have a paper trail...but everybody is different.

    George,
I have a Target Visa that I gave to my wife because they only gave me a $1,500 limit at 12.9%. It is what you personally would call a "TOY CARD". With the low limit and it looking so UGLY I did not want to even carry it! Too embarrassing! But I guess they got me back!!
Erica, thanks for the advice I'll give it away as a gift. Thanks again!

I guess that is why they promoted me to a manager yesterday. Because I give good advice.

You're welcome tommyy. I'm happy I could help. You can write a pfb letter about me, if you'd like. I'd like the compliment. LOL

Target's policy is definitely firm. In fact, I'm about to run to Target right now. When I first learned of the new policy I was tempted to stop shopping there, but Target is clearly the class act of their category in retail. The shopping experience at Target is far better than Wally World or KMart. If Sam was still living he'd give 'em a run for their money. I suspect that while retailers have to protect themselves from the omnipresent crooked element, customer satisfaction will probably end up being the cream that rises to the top. Give the retailers awhile to improve loss prevention figures and the competitive marketplace will surely dictate that they revert to building relationships with their customers.

Wal-Mart is #1 because they are cheap. There is nothing wrong with Wal-Mart. It has it's place. I shop at Sam's Club 3 or 4 times each month. But Target is certainly a more upscale place to shop (than Wal-Mart) that still delivers great value for the money. Who could possibly choose K-Mart if there's a Wal-Mart or Target nearby?
