I just recieved a bill collection letter from Debt Recovery Solutions stating that they have purchased my account from Sprint. The amount is for $219.10.I can't remember if I paid Sprint or not. When I checked my credit reports it was not listed at all. This was in 1/03.If I do owe this money it would have to be from late 98 or early 99.My questions are...Can they put this on my credit report this late? Will they try to reage the date of last activity? And can you send a validation letter for a phone collection? What should I do?By the way SOL in NC is 3 years!Should I try to validate first or send a cease and disist letter first?Thank You!
Iâ??m fighting with these idiots right now, but I can assure you that their bark is worse than their bite. Iâ??m in the process of buying a home, and one of the requirements from the lender is that I pay off anything that is showing a balance from collection. DRS was one of these for $98 from 4 years ago. It just popped up on the credit report within the past 4 months, and I didnâ??t recall ever leaving a past due balance on the account. Since I was against the wall with the lender I agreed to pay the amount, but I let them know that I would need the proof of the payment as soon as possible. Their response was that they would send a letter saying that I paid PENDING the clearing of the CC charge, which would take 60-90 days. They also indicated that they would continue to report the debt as UNPAID for this same time period. So, I paid, knowing that I had them out of the gate with a violation that I could prove as my bank statement would verify that they were paid in full. As soon as I did this I sent them a validation letter, followed by a dispute to the CRA. I just received a partial validation from them, so that is violation #2 as well as my certainty that they are not reporting the dispute to the CRA, violation #3. The estoppel letter went out yesterday, according to plan, and the ITS will go out in 30 days. So the lesson here is to force them to validate, to which they will send you a couple of old bills showing that you owe some balance (not a full validation), and then press them on their violations with estoppel and ITS. Iâ??ll let you know how it goes with me over the next couple of months. And to add, the C/D works if they are calling you, which they haven't yet. You could send it now and hope that they call and put another violation in the column on your WIN side.
Just as I thought, I checked my credit report today and sure enough, DRS indicated that it was still not paid, and not disputed. I like these folks, as they are making my job easy!!!

DOH!!! Sorry about that, yes it's 15 days for the ITS. I get a little confused when I don't have enough coffee;-)
lb, I like your style. I've seen quite a few posts that you have made, and it looks like you have had some real successes, as well as a pretty good understanding of how the processes work. I've got a quick question for you. What can I do about an OC that is reporting a negative, albeit closed, TL although the CA has stopped reporting it at all? They sent me a UDF but it is missing everything except my name, and a notation at the bottom.
