This evening while I was away there was a phone call with a message my husband took telling me I must call a certain # because there was 'unusual activity' on my Visa. Hubby called me on my cell and I returned the call knowing that the only VISA I have is actually a debit card linked to my credit union checking account. I called the # that had been given to Hubby thinking it was my credit union at first. They started by asking for the last four digits of my card # which I did provide. They then asked for some other info which set off an alarm in my head. One such was they wanted my Hubby's first name. Well, this is an individual account, not joint and even my credit union has no reason to know his first name. I then told them that they could NOt be my credit union and asked just who they were. They said they were Synergy (sp?) company and they were contracted by credit unions and that there was unusual activity on my Visa. I told them I would not give them any info and that I would call my credit union directly and they told me, "oh, if you feel you have to do that the teller will not know what you are talking about unless you tell them there is a 'Falcon Alert'. I said sure, sure...then called my credit union. All is just fine on my account of course and they were not amused with this 'falcon alert' business....of course they never heard of such a term or alert. Bottom line, I'm fairly certain this was a scam to get info for identity theft. All I divulged to them was last 4 digits of visa #. Now I'm really paranoid. The # they had me call was 800-890-5097 If anyone has any information or knowledge of this company or that phone # please enlighten me.
Synergy ================ I have heard this term before. Don't recall where. Perhaps on this board some time or other. You could try a board search .
I generally stick to lurking here, but wanted you to know I googled that phone number and this is the link to that search: http://www.google.com/search?q=800-890-5097&sourceid=opera&num=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 There's only one result and the company does talk about credit card/debit card fraudulent activity. Hope that helps. Or gives you a start.
