I got a call yesterday (on my cell phone no less) from some outfit called "North American Central" telling me I had been approved for a credit card, blah blah blah, and what was my checking account number at the bottom of my check? I told them rather forcefully that I didn't know them from atom and had no intention of giving them that info. It turns out that it's a worthless "credit" card only good for merchandise from some crappy catalog and you get charged $150 for the privilage. I referred the matter to the Montreal Police Depatment fraud division after backtracking the number from Caller ID.
