Hello all, I had heard that you can possibly raise your credit score by having a reliable person add you as an authorized user to a credit card in good standing. I had my mom try to add me to her Citibank Dividend, Sears, and Chase but Chase and Citi said they do not add anything to my CR's. Not sure about Sears.

Should I write a letter to the credit B or to the OC to have them add me? Any good letters?

    and/or

Should I try to add an account by purchasing an account? I had heard that there are actual accounts for sale specifically to piggyback. Are these reputable? Do you know of any specific services?

    Thank you Diane

My Mother added me as a joint user to a family card that was rarely used with a two year history aways back. This brought me from the 570's to low 605 range. The card had a high open balance which definitely helped.

Many companies have a spot on line to add an authorized user. If so it will reflect on your credit history with no legal obligations to the card.

As a joint user I am responsible for the card.

I would never ask to be added to a strangers card. What information of yours are you sharing with whom.

I did not know you could be added as a joint user to an existing card. Is this true even if your credit is bad and the other persons is good?

My dad added me to three of his cards Chase, MBNA and one other cant remember. It greatly increases your score with almost no work at all. When my father did this the creditors didnt ask for anything other than my name (no social or dob) and sent the cards directly to him.
