It took some effort... First some background. I applied for and received a $500 Target Guest card in April 2001. I was happy to get the card. Target cancelled my Guest card in November 2001 when I applied for and received a $10,000 15.9% apr. Target visa card. I refused to activate the card unless Target reduced the apr. to 12.9%. I had two telephone discussions with Target that resulted in the apr. reduction. These discussions were not unfriendly - just a negotiation. Recently there was a thread on the board regarding PlanetFeedback and the Target visa card. Each writer had a very different experience. Here is my experience... I wrote my Planet Feedback E-mail to Target asking for an apr. reduction to 9.9% and an unspecified request for a credit limit increase. I was E-mailed a response that Target had received my correspondence and was reviewing it. Then I received an E-mail asking me to contact credit serices by telephone. I telephoned and was turned down for my requests. I responded to the E-mail and explained that I felt the rejection was predictable and that the reason I had contacted the Target Executive Office was that I wanted them to override the rules that the telephone reps. are obligated to follow. A response to me was sent immediately from a supervisor via E-mail. The results - a reduction to 9.9% fixed apr. No increase in credit limit. I am satisfied as I have too much credit anyway and will be eliminating another account soon. My conclusion... When you contact Target via PlanetFeedback, your correspondence will be forwarded to credit services. There is no Executive Office review. So when they respond to you negatively; respond right back via E-mail. You may get positive results as I did. Best regards, Jim
I got my guest card in January so I'll try for the visa this summer when I have a history with target.
I am not answering your question. But I think getting the guest card is the key to getting the visa card in many cases. My CE score was 660's when I got the guest card. This probably doesn't mean much as some people seem to have gotten the guest card with much lower scores.
Hey Jim, Good to see you post. Nice work on the Target APR. I particularly liked the part where you refused to activate the card unless you got the 12.9%. Hardball...it will be nice when May comes around and I get my last deletion on Equifax so I can start demanding such things. Anyway, good to hear from you and congrats on the sucess. -Peace, Dave
