Recently I paid off a credit card which charged me an annual fee of $99, but the limit on that card was only $750.
Called up the outfit to cancel the card.
Them - but Sir, you were such a good customer, we would hate to lose you.
Me - in the 4 years since I had the card the annual fee was always $99, and you only increased my limit twice, first time from $400 to $500, and the second time from $500 to $750.
Them - stammering - but, but, but.
Me - I'll keep your card IF you waive the annual fee and increase my limit to $2000.
Them - Would you consider a limit of $1750?
Me - Might, if you waive the annual fee. If you insist on an annual fee take the card and shove it where the sun don't shine.
After a few more minutes of back and forth they agreed to the $1750 limit WITHOUT any annual fee.

    Never hurts to play hardball.

    Congratulations!!!

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't--but if you don't try, it NEVER works!

I think if you've been a good customer many creditors are going to work with you now.
