I received a settlement offer from I think...Plaza Associates or something out of NY for my 2 Capital One charge-offs. They were willing to take WAY less than Capital One. CO wants 100% to change my status, so I'm thinking of taking the settlements and then in a couple months PFB CO and ask to change my rating. Does anyone know about Plaza Associates? It's in my shredder and I've tried to piece it back together with NO luck.

Send them a cease & desist if it's past the SOL.

They tried to collect a $900 (or so) debt that was 2 years past the SOL. I sent them a C&D letter. In fact, on the letter they sent me, it plainly stated that "I WAS FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEBT", which was a LIE and a violation of the FDCPA (I didn't owe it -- it was PAST the SOL). I threatened to sue if they didn't cease and/or if they touched my credit reports.

A few weeks later, I got a letter from Plaza. They said that they sent it (the "debt") back to the original creditor, and they would report nothing.

I've seen/heard NOTHING of/from Plaza Associates nor the original creditor since. It's been several years.

    Here's a different twist:

I have no problems with Plaza Associates. They were the ones collecting on behalf of my Target Charge off. The rep was really nice and set up a payment plan that I could afford ($30/mo). They were very pleasant to work with. I knew I owed the money and I just wanted a reasonable way to pay them back. They didn't blow up my phone and they didn't harass me in any way. They were never listed on any of my reports though.

While I was paying off this Target charge off, it was discovered OUT OF THE BLUE that I had another debt in my name that they were trying to collect on behalf of Fingerhut! They couldn't tell me any info regarding this other than the fact that it was like $1k+ dollars. I told them that this was not my account and they simply instructed me to write them a letter stating that I disputed the account. I did just that and I guess they sent the account back to Fingerhut for investigation. I was never contacted by Fingerhut.

So I'm under the impression that Plaza is only in business to collect on accounts. If an account is deemed uncollectable due to C&D, validation, etc. they just send the account back where it came from.

Christi, I'm sure that you've tried Eugene Cooke. He wouldn't change it from a R9 to a R5? Charlie
