About 6 months ago, I disputed several lates from an old credit card that was showing up on all 3 bureaus. Due to a bank error, they were all deleted. Last month, they showed back up on my equifax report. I contacted equifax and they said to re-dispute it to get them off. I did this and it came back verified (as late) today. If it was deleted before, how is it possible for it to come back verified this time? Why did I have to dispute it again instead of Equifax just deleting them due to it already being diputed and changed to a good status? What should I do? Thanks for your help.

When they were re-reported, did Equifax notify you within 5 days that they were back on your report? They have to per the FCRA. They also are to have "certified" proof from the reporter that the info is correct. And, they are supposed to have a way to prevent previously deleted items fro reappearing.

I would send them a little letter and ask for the "certified" proof from the oc that they are supposed to have. When they tell you they don't have it, demand they delete the item immediately or you will file suit. But, if they don't delete it and you threaten suit, follow through with it.

Thanks, LKH. Couldn't I call them instead of sending a letter? If so, does anyone know a phone number I could call?

I would log on Equifax's website and pay them their measly $9.99. For $9.99 you get a report and a phone number direct to a human being rather than voice mail. And that number is good for 30 days.

No! Write them. As LKH said, if they don't fix it, you might have to serve them up with a lawsuit. You need the paper trail. This is not a friendly give them a call situation.

I just went thru this with CSC (affiliate of EQ). Letter writing did no good either, but I built my paper trail. Finally sent the ITS to their Agent of Service. Got a letter from a paralegal, she was investigating my claims, and would get back to me. Told her time is up for investigating! Remove it now, or off I go to court (an ITS is mandatory for small claims in TX). It was fixed in 24 hours.

I would call them first. If calling doesn't work then I'd send a letter. You have nothing to lose. In my experience I have never had to send a letter.

Ok, call them first, give them the heads up, and watch those lates be stuck forever.

This is a cut-and-dried violation, and an easy deletion, and one the CRAs ignore, and will deny. Its happened to me several times, and one of the BIG reasons my report is as clean as it is.

Hmmm, what have you got to lose?
