Re: Stock Market The initial plummet was over 600 points....but it does appear to be stabilizing. There are a lot of very good deals out there right now. Hopefully this was mostly due to 'after hours' sell offs and sell orders put in the system while the market was closed. Hopefully the world is now seeing the values in the market and the buyers will come out. My hopes are for the best. Shawn
Re: Stock Market We still need to buy goods, not necessarily stock. Go fly, buy plane tickets, spend a lot on xmas this year, those are what will keep our economy rolling.
Re: Stock Market Like I said earlier, I agree consumer spending in general is good. However, since a lot of people on this board (myself included) are coming out of bad financial situations and 'starting again', I think that putting money into the economy by investing is probably better than racking up commercial purchases. Opening an Etrade account is free and only takes minutes. It is more fun and usually more profitable than sticking money in a savings account. AND, it is a lot easier to take money out of a savings account and spend it on a rainy day. Also, buying stock 'today' had a signifigance as the 'attack' was partially meant to dethrone Wall Street as the economic center of the world, and all eyes are on the market this morning. Stocks a re rebounding, and those of us buying this morning will probably be reaping benefits beyond the good feeling buying the stock provided. Again, I am not an investment professional of any kind, just a guy putting in my 2 cents (well, a little more than that today).
Re: Stock Market Like breeze said, it is not that bad, there are people buying. There are some great bargains out there, but it may take a few days for the dust to settle. Certainly, the fed lowering rates a 1/2 a point is a very good sign. They may lower it some more if the markets don't stabalize at a reasonable level. www.creditsense.com
Re: Stock Market Not bad at all. Commentators were saying that the internet grassroots movement was making many investors hold off, fearing that they would be the ones making the mistake, LOL. So just the news that there is a grassroots movement of little guys has had it's effect. The power of the internet!! Wow! I have other opinions LOL, but since I am an agent, and not securities licensed, I can't express them.
Re: Stock Market For the record, I upped my offer. $1100.00 now in Cisco (CSCO) today. I believe in the market. It will turn around....not just the long run, but today! Shawn
Re: Stock Market I sent in a $1,000 to my daughter mutual fund..I wonder if i can fund my etrade using creit card for short time..Just enough to help but yet get rembersed on the intrest/
Re: Stock Market I THINK E*TRADE WORKS ON CASH/CHECK FUND... I know MBNA AMERICA will balance transfer direct to your checking account by "WIRE"...that would be "SAME AS CASH"..."GUARANTEED FUNDS"...LIKE DIRECT DEPOSIT FOR YOUR PAY CHECK "GUARANTEED FUNDS"...
Re: Stock Market You can do a direct transfer from your bank to ETrade, I added money today, took less than 5 seconds. I do not know how it works for credit cards....but I am sure there are ways around it! Shawn
Re: Stock Market maybe i am better off with just what i did and we do put into a 401k every week as well..I just hope things work out for the country.I still can't believe this!!
If you are in the market for a car, I think now is the time. I bet there are some great deals available at dealers now.
MP$40- Did you get E*Trade to work? I got in on Cisco (CSCO) yesterday at 13.50, it's at 14.40 now. Tech seems to be doing ok. The market is really holding it's own today, even in the positive. Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!! Shawn
Wanted to weigh in earlier, but got sidetracked. If I could just figure out how to get this job thing out of my way... My Vote: BUY! In addition to my regular biweekly 401k payroll deduction which this week put another whopping $300 into the capital markets, I'm scrounging together what I can to buy more individual stocks. BTW, George, er GEORGE, heh, heh, I've noticed that since your FICO hit 700 that you are not using CAPITALS full time any more, merely MOST of the time. Does this mean that if we can get you to 750, you might even forget about that Caps Lock key? I might be willing to donate a few FICO points to that cause.Who's with me? (Remember, Give 'til IT HURTS!) LOL, lol, ahem. Carry on...
I logged in and noticed that I had only $28 in cash to buy stock. I had a direct link set up to my bank but read somewhere that it could take days to clear? Is that so? So I didn't do it! :-( Then my boss said that when you make a purchase you have 3 days to make good on the money? Is that so? See....that's why I haven't messed w/ the stock market. I haven't had the time to do the proper research before hand. Not to mention that I saw one of my girlfriends get herself in quite a jam by day trading. She currently owes Datek $21k. At one point she did owe $50k but got it down somehow. So I'm already nervous! :-O
It only takes about 5 seconds to transfer from your Bank account, no worries there!!!! One thing though, I wouldn't look at it as a 'get rich quick' type of thing, more of a new type of savings that will broaden your financial portfolio and at the same time help your economy. At a little over a dollar gain right now, I am only up about 100 dollars. Yet, it's much better than a savings account and I only invested 1100.00! I know that when I was getting my mortgage, a year and a half out of BK7, they were very interested in my 401k and stock portfolio- saying it added stability and responsibility. Good luck, feel free to ask away. Shawn
O.k. I know it takes 5 seconds to transfer the money from my checking to E*Trade. But don't I have to wait XX amount of time before I can use the money? Or can I place an order right away? That was the question I had yesterday. As far as the get rich quick scheme....I'm totally cool off that. I saw my friend's portfolio go from nothing to something back to nothing. At one point she had over $100k in stock from her company VRTS. Not anymore....that is all gone....it's over now. I was looking at the $100 CSCO deal as a long term investment. What's a $100 bucks anyway? I'm transferring the money into my account as we speak. I have my marketcaster running to watch prices so that I can get it at a good price. Also, I got your email Shawn thanks. But I don't use MSN messenger. I use AOL Buddy and Yahoo messenger.
You can trade right away!!! You fill out the 'check' on E*Trade, and they authorize it from your bank right away. My first one failed as I mis-typed my acct# number, then went right through after I corrected it. An authorization was immediately placed on the funds, so they knew they were there. Hope this helps!
