    Folks,

Although numerous negative epinions have been posted recently, Nextcard still appears as being recommended by well over 50% on Epinions.com, mainly due to excellent mindshare the card enjoyed early on. The card has steadily declined from a 70% recommended rating to the current 54% in recent months. Wouldn't you want potential Nextcard customers to be forewarned? Please take a moment and post your experiences, positive or negative, on Epinions.com.

Your experiences will be shared by thousands instead of hundreds on this board.

    Thanks.

I have had the card for a month now. It's been a pretty good card, and gave me a generous ($2000) credit line as well as the 9.9% fixed rate with only one year of credit history.

I hope everything works out well for you. But I know it wouldn't. You will be totally pissed off with them six months out.

Why do you say that? Have you had a bad experience with Nextcard? I've already made 4 payments online w/ the system, and they are posted to my account the following day.

Ok, I'd like to step up to the plate here... I'm a happy NextCard customer. Their customer service is terrific. They gave me a $4500 line of credit with a FICO in the low half of the 600s (I don't remember exactly where my FICO was when they gave me the card, but Equifax began at 564 for me and is now 645). The intro 6 month rate was 9.9 which admittedly does jet up to 18.9 after six months, but I used the card for transfer balances at 9.9 (which will stay at 9.9) and I'm paying those down. Basically they've delivered what they promised, and their customer service front-line staff have been really informed and polite whenever I've called. Moreover, like Matty, their online bill payment works flawlessly. No wonder more than half the folks over on ePinions.com have given them a positive review (which is really something considering that most people visit ePinions to COMPLAIN by far than to simply go on over to send a compliment).

Like Matty, I'd welcome hearing the horror stories, though. Do tell.

That's right, Nana. Are they rough on BKs?

I'm gathering that from the thread we put together on bk-friendly creditors.

    Thanks for the info!

Well, I got a card, only 750 limit (*and I can't seem to increase it) but my bk shows in 1998, and I got good terms.

My interest rate went up 2 points with everyone else's. but since my scores are still moderate I'm ok with it.

When I have to close accounts, it may go due to low credit line and fear of poor terms in the future with no provocation whatsoever from my activity.

They seem a bit flakey on interest rate calculations.

Right, Marie, I think there were a few exceptions to the rule about Next and BK when we discussed this over there on that thread! :) I got the impression it was a gray area.

    Chiming in on Nextcard:

I opened this account in January. Credit limit 9K with APR of prime +0.49. In May, the APR was changed to 9.99 fixed. The credit limit increased to 11K.

All payments posted within one or two days through the website.

With my last statement, I received a notice of change of terms that jacked the cash advance rate. No problem there since I wouldn't use the card for that even at the old rate but the change of terms contained some other provisions that I didn't like including the requirement of binding arbitratiion, the imposiiton of a 2& surcharge for foreign transactions and the 19.99 rate for closed accounts. This coupled with George's announcement that his wife had her purchase rate suddenly increase from 9.9 to 18.99 is cause for concern about the future.

Although Nextcard has had phenomenal growth over the past year and now has over 1 million accounts, it is still losing money but hopes to be profitable by the 4Q. I just hope that they don't try to do it by increasing APRs. If they do, I will be moving my balance to a friendlier bank.

Doc, I was a Nextcard member from July 98 until Mar'01. I have seen it deteriorate.

Go to epinions and "sort the epinions by date". You will see that most recent epinions are from people who have been ill-treated. Almost every epinion over the last six months is negative.

There are some companies that will GET YOU. It's just a matter of time. They include Fleet, FUSA and Nextcard.
