Today, before leaving work, I printed my Equifax CR out. Then I got a call from a long lost friend of mine. After the call, I just left work without picking up my CR printout. Once I realized that, I immediately ran back to work, but could not find my CR printout anywhere. I asked the only guy who was still there if he saw it, but he said no!!! I'm very frustrated now, I don't care much if people know my credit history. However, I'm afraid to become a victim of credit fraud. My SSN, DOB, Address, DL#... are in the report. What can I do to protect myself? Will placing credit alert with the 3 CRAs prevent me from anything? I'm planning to apply for a mortgage loan in 2-3 months. Any advice, suggestion are much appreciated. Thanks!
It might help to call your credit card companies and tell them to watch out for fraudulent activities. Also, subscribe to privacy guard for $1 for 3 month trial and they will be able to monitor your credit for you. They will alert you if anything suspicious is detected on your credit. You can also pull report DAILY and monitor your credit yourself. I think it is worth it. You can also call the credit bureaus and ask them what you can do to protect yourself.
