My FICO score is in the 560 range...I've been paying all my bills on time and paying as much down as I can on my balances, but I have a few things I need advice on... I have approximately 6 collections accounts, 2 of which appear on my credit report. The others (from 2001) do not. These include LIPA, Verizon and Cablevision. Others are bounced checks, a library bill etc. The utility bills I cannot figure out who to pay, since neither the company nor the last known CA has any info on me on record. I have no idea what to do...I'm trying to fix my credit, but I dont know what to do about these items that may or may not show up on my report one day. Please tell me, do I try to find out who to pay (and if so, how??)? How will I know if it will go on my CR at some time in the future? I know this sounds convoluted, but I need some expert advice and I am not sure where to turn... Thanks, Lesley
I know where you're coming from. In December of 2002 my credit score was at 472 with 4 collections, 2 chargeoffs, and multiple accounts showing 120+ days past due. Today, my FICO is at 617 with no collections or charageoffs showing (on equifax at least) and perfect payment history for one full year. One of the best things I could advise is to get everything in writing. If you work out a deal to pay a collection, make sure you get something in writing on their letterhead stating that they will not report the debt, or for other accounts to show that they would be paid as agreed. Fixing your credit wont be a quick thing, but if you browse this forum you'll get alot of good info.
