Hello, Just recently found about this site and had some questions. I have the following negative info on my credit report: MBNA (Gateway LOC): 7 x 30 days. I have another cc with MBNA which i have from them for 8 years. I perfect record on the other card for 8years. Do you think I have a chance to gettin the other item removed? It's 2-3 years old. College Foundation: I have 2 x30 on this loan which ha been closed off for 3 years. Any chance of a good will letter working on THEM? Collection: I have a $75 collection from my last appartment complex that came up on my credit report. About 2 years ago I was not ver wise and decided not to pay them because they used a racial term in their final bill to me. The final cleaning bill from them was $275 and out of that $75 was to clean out the "curry" smell. I am Indian , and that remark I found very insulting. So I paid $200 and refused to pay the $75...it ended up on my credit report..should have paid. This shows up as Collection Paid on my credit report..2 years ago. How do I deal witht his.. I would really appreciate some help as I am looking to refiance my house at a lower rate and want to boost my score..I am 600 EQ . Thanks, Dharmesh
Hi! Welcome to the board! You have a couple of options with those accounts w/ late pays You can 1- Dispute them directly through the credit reporting agencies as "not mine" to see if it results in a deletion if not, you can then try "paid never late" and see how that works. If and when neither of these methods work, that's when I would try the goodwill letters. As for the CA account, again you can dispute this with the CRAs as "not mine" and see what happens. If it comes back as verified, perhaps try a validation request. Is the collection account being reported directly by the apartment complex or through a collection agency? Also, before you initiate any of these disputes with the CRAs, have all your old addressed deleted- the only address you want on there is the one you're living at. This is simple enough- I did it over the phone with Trans Union and Experian- had to send in proof of address via US mail to Equifax. Getting the old addresses of your report makes it more difficult for those negative items to be verified. The methods I'm suggesting are pretty basic and no frill. If you don't achieve the results you're looking for, that's when it gets a bit more complicated but there is plenty of information here on the board! I can't believe what idiots that complex must have been- that must have been horrible for you Do you have that in writing what they said? Sending a copy of that to their corp office might be all it takes to get it removed from your report. Good luck!
