    Hello all,
I have received a "summons and complaint".
The letter appears to be in the format as if it is coming from the court,
describing plaintiff and defendant. NCO is listed as the plaintiff, and some lawyer has scribbled
a signature on it. It is asking to appear in court whithin 20 days to answer
the complaint. I personally never received it. It was found at the doorsteps.
I am able to check online at the court's site and with the case number this paper
lists to see if it is actually filed. I have searched by defendant's name as well,
    but nothing shows up.
The weird thing about all this is that the referenced account does not appear on my credit.
Neither do I have such an account. My name is on it with a slight variation on the first name.
I had a friend lawyer call the lawyer listed and he said the SS # did not much,
and told him i should file a police report, which i did and I'm waiting for it. I havent
got the report yet and I havent had any other communication with them yet, neither did I tell
them that i did file a report.
Now I received a settlement letter (which came opened) for half the amount.
I have read in here a lot of posts and different ways of how to proceed.
Should I sent a validation letter and answer the summons at the same time? Can I ask for the SS # this is on at the validation?
Any advise on how to proceed?

Send the validation letter to the collection agency, and no more.

Check with the court where this was supposedly filed. If they don't have anything filed, see if they'll give you a statement to that effect.

    Then the fun will begin.
