I have been reading here for a little while. I am sorry this might be a long post. When I pulled the 3-1 credit report it shows that I have AFINI on EQ and At&t on TU and EX for the same amount, same account numbers. I mailed off a DV to AFINI I have not heard from them-even before I pulled my credit report I did not hear from them. My question is do I have to DV At&t as well? Also do I have to send another DV letter to AFINI or is one enough, and forward a copy of the DV letter and the delivery confirmation card to the one credit reporting agency?

The next problem, when I pulled my credit files I learned of Huston funding on TU only. I have sent off a DV at the same time as AFINI and I have not heard from them. Do I have to send another DV or is one good enough to forward to TU and state that Houston funding has not validated this debit?

Thank you so much for all of your help. From reading here I have been able to get two medical collections and a few duplicate negatives removed. AT&T or AFINI (not sure who owns it) and Houston is the last in the collection section.

Glad to hear that our forum has been a help to you along the way, and congrats on your progress so far!

If you sent your debt validation letters via certified mail with return receipt requested, then one should be enough. You can use the return receipt as proof that they received your letter, so there's no need to send it again. If you didn't receive a return receipt, check with the USPS on the status of your letters.

If you're sure they received the disputes on time, then go ahead and dispute with the credit bureaus using all the documentation you have at this point.

As Josh pointed out, it is imperative to ascertain whether or not the requests for validations were sent within 30 days from your initial receipt. However, you could argue that since you never heard from them so the 30 days began once you had occasion to see it on your credit reports.

I'd suggest you go ahead and dispute the tradelines through the credit reporting agencies.

I have the green confirmation cards from both collection companies to prove that they did receive my letters requesting that this debit be validated. I never received letters from the companies and sent out these letters after pulling my credit report. I did dispute this with the credit reporting agencies-it came back verified AFINI is listed with TU, this debit is listed as At&t on the other two (I never contacted At&t-should I DV them as well? I have never had At&t always Verizon) Houston Funding is only on TU which also came back verified.

I have decided to contact at&t as well. With any luck this will be removed from two credit reports, I have sent TU a copy of the DV and delivery confirmation card with a letter requesting that this be removed since the company cannot validate with and I never heard from them. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

The official site for getting your free annual credit report is www.annualcreditreport.com. At that site you won't be asked to pay for credit monitoring, and you don't have to give a credit card or bank account number that can be hit later.

I received a letter from AFINI stating that they are requesting that they be deleted from my credit report. I am over the moon happy about that. I will send out a DV letter to At&t, I hope DV works with them.

Original creditors do not have to validate the debt. The FDCPA does not apply to them.
