In researching the abundant amounts of information out there, I am finding myself getting caught up in misinformation, outdated information, and tons of opinions. At this point, I can't even tell if there is a violation or not. This website is the best one I have found so far, but sometimes questions don't get answered or the answers bring up even more questions. And that's fine. The advice is still appreciated, and I am not paying anyone to help me. But maybe I should. I feel like my time is running out, since I have already sent two validation letters with insufficient responses. In searching for legal consultation, there are dozens of options. Some of them charge quite a bit, yet my inaccurate credit mark is only about $600. Does anyone have any suggestions to obtain trustworthy, reasonably priced legal advice? I live on the central coast of California, btw. The one thing I have concluded is that the FDCPA is NOT very "consumer friendly" with the completely vague language on numerous issues. I could just try to cut a deal with the CA, but at this point, it's a matter of principal. I should be able to get proof that a debt is mine. But of course, honesty and integrity are not worth half as much as the almighty dollar! (Sorry for the rant.)
What are you calling an "insufficient response"? Did they ignore you? Respond late or just send you a copy of the bill? I will help with any way I can here but there are many more qualified than me. Like ontrack, always and Butch. They seem to be the guru's. I can just share personal experience. The first thing that I can say is that you will need to scour this site. It is full of great advice and experience. That is how I am plodding through this valley.
I appreciate the offer. But I have already spent so many hours scouring this site and others trying to educate myself. I have been sorting through threads for days. I think I am more confused now than ever. I am not a lawyer, and it just seems easier now to try to find someone to pay to give me reliable answers. The longer I wait, the worse I think it is going to be. So far my research is not providing me reliable answers. There is debate on many subjects and certain court decisions seem to change the rules. But my guess is that there is a simple remedy.
I seem to be having a connection problem. Why don't you try a one-time hotmail or yahoo account? I've created one with "Always" and characters following it. I'll watch for your post.
