lbrown59 - puh-lease. Is it because you tried your brand of charm on them? Anyway, schweb: best is Juniper, worst Chase. DMB used to be OK, but since jacking up the APRs across the board, people flooded their phone lines & their reps have been barely civil ever since. In less than a month I care one whit about CC Customer service bc my remaining debt will be gone. Hallelujah!

Is it because you tried your brand of charm on them? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ No,it's because they don't know the meaning of customer service or respect. They think the customer owes them something for nothing. Their attitude is take take take but they don't want to give you anything in return. This Idea that the customer owes them his business just doesn't get it!
Here's my list, ranked: #1 Diners Club (Citi) - phone ALWAYS answered by a human - any issues have been resolved quickly (when they couldn't immediately, I was given a call back, usually by same rep w/in 2 days) #2 (a close 2nd) : Amex - Usually resolves issues - have had to "fight the system" a few times, but the reps have been text-book "Professional" There's a sizeable gap from these top two and the rest, imho #3 MBNA - professional, accurate, quick #4 Target Visa - professional, great email replies The next ones are a tie- they are all equal in my experience #5a Chase - always professional, fast responses #5b Fleet - yes, Fleet - they've improved a lot lately #5c BofA - professional, but a little too much "the computer will only let me ..." #5d FNANB - when you can get to the human folks, they great #6 CapitalOne - I'd rank 'em higher if they stopped trying to sell me s*it #7 Discover - nice enough, but same problem as #8 I refuse to rank the next ones - THEY SUCK. Nextcard (obviously) Providian (ditto)
best: 1. Citibank 2. MBNA 3. cap 1 worst: 1. providian/aria/getsmart 2. Household bank (orchard division) 3. first something bank (dumb card)
Everyone seems to be dishing Providian. I know that they have done alot of rotten things to alot of people, but they have not given me any problems. Trevor
Best: American Express Bank of America JCB Chase Manhattan Capital One and yes, even Providian- When I had my account with them for 5.5 years, I received great customer service. Not once did I reach someone who was rude, condescending or unwilling to help. My requests were taken care of promptly. I know I was angry with them for not upgrading my card to Platinum, but that was not a customer service issue, it was a corporate one. Worst: Cross Country Bank- The reps I spoke to were nice, but were not empowered to do ANYTHING. You had to write a letter for credit owed, billing problems, etc. Very unorganized. Associates National Bank- Must have had a high turnover in customer service reps. Many were just not very knowledgeable. I'm sure things have changed since Citibank has taken over.
Worst: M&I bank 1800- 4miline. Best Hertz rent a car in Juniper credit card customer service zurich life insurance
oh oh oh wait FCNB sucks so bad they must have lobster claws locked on thier ears and private parts at all times while dealing with customers. I really beleive this you know.
Best: Citibank Mediocre: Chase Cap One Macy's Texaco Worst: Providian (Very rude, as well as unethical) Discover (Even their letters were rude, which has to be done deliberately.)
Worst for me has been FCNB (mean and nasty), Sears (ditto) and Nextcard (who do they hire?) Best have been MBNA (well trained and professional), Nordstrom's, WFFNB (although I can't get them to update my CR correctly) and Bank of America.
