The Discover 2GO Card, an Innovation in the Credit Card Industry, Offers the Key to Convenience RIVERWOODS, Il., March 20, 2002 - Discover® Card is making a big move, bringing its trademark benefits - the Cashback Bonus® award, no annual fee, and special Cardmember offers - out of the wallet. The Discover 2GO Card (patents pending), the first card of its kind in the credit card industry, has a unique, compact shape and is housed in a protective case that easily attaches to a key chain, belt or money clip. The Discover 2GO Card provides the ultimate convenience to Cardmembers by offering a handy new way to access their Discover Card Accounts. It shares the same Account number, credit limit and expiration date as the Cardmember's existing Discover Card, but allows greater flexibility. No longer will people have to take their wallets along in their gym bags, beach totes or briefcases - Discover 2GO is the perfect card for today's busy lifestyles. "We're bringing Discover Card out of people's wallets and putting all of its benefits at their fingertips," said David W. Nelms, president and chief operating officer of Discover Financial Services, Inc. "When Discover Card was launched, we were the only major credit card company to offer a no annual fee product and a cash reward program. Now, with the launch of the Discover 2GO Card, we are once again changing the industry and, at the same time, providing unprecedented convenience to our Cardmembers." After a year long pilot, the Discover 2GO Card is now launching in select Midwest markets, with national availability this summer. This is way cool. It's too bad they patented it- I'd like my Amex to be on a keychain!! http://www.discover2go.com
The coolest thing since the clear version of Amex Blue was introduced. Also, looks like it can't be used to take a cash advance, which is actually a plus (if stolen). Saar
This will probably fare better in the US than smart cards have to date. What would be interesting is if the make a "multi card" holder. Kinda like a Swiss Army knife except you would have your Discover, Amex, Diners Club etc cards in the same holder. Notice that you could only use this D2Go card in "swipe" readers like the ones at grocery and retail stores. You would not be able to use it in "insert" readers like the ones on gas pumps.
For me, that's actually quite a draw back. Too bad the gas pumps weren't originally designed as a swipe system rather than an insert system.
This would make for a nice key chain and you can leave the wallet at home. It would be nice to have a universal key chain (Visa/MC, Amex, Discover) with the ability to choose your payment method electronically.
WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Yup - Jonesing - I like the multicard concept mixed with a Swiss Army Knife! aarrfff - dogman
Well how about a multi-tool instead of the knife? That way you could take it on an airplane! I'm waiting for Leatherman, Coleman or *somebody* to modify their multi-tool so that it is "airline safe/approved." My old one has a knife that couldn't break the skin on a peach but it still can't go on a plane. I just hope that Discover invests some money in training materials for their merchants!! I can just see it now, you whip out your 2go keyring fob to pay for something at KMart only to have Rentacop Snerdly tackle you because they think you're trying to scam the store with some kind of fake card!
