Congrats, Sorin! :) It's nice to have someone with a similar credit situation as I, but only a few steps ahead. It gives me a chance to know what I could expect in the next 3-6 months!!!!

Congrats! I'm in the same situation, after 7 years of not being able to qualify even for a cell phone. I'm getting approved for gold cards!

    Enjoy!

Had you built your credit with Capital One, I'd bet they still wouldn't unsecure your $300 card by now...

Apparently, some banks DO show their appreciation of good customers, and don't put them in the "subprime for life" category. Sure, I know, credit building requires patience. Well sorry, Capital One, I'm out.

MBNA is definitely part of the Prime world, and from now on - this is where you belong. Congrats!

Well, actually my first card was a Cap
One secured with $200 line. Closed it in
august. They tried to keep me with a $500
line increase, but sorry, there's only so
    much space in my wallet:))

I think i've already did that... but here's
    again:

Came to US in spring 99, absolutely no
    credit history.
9/99 Cap One MC secured $200
    12/99 Providian Visa Classic, $500
    1/00 Associates Visa Classic, $750
5/00 Citibank MC Platinum Select $1200
5/00 Secured personal loan for $3000
    7/00 Discover Platinum $6000
    8/00 Closed Cap One

$500? Yep, that sounds like a "generous" act of their retention department. And I'm afraid this is as far as they go...

BTW - are you the "Sorin" from www.webpre.com/dv/messages ?

Sorin-- agree with you 100%. I just closed two capital one accounts with 20+ APRs. One was partially secured with a $5K limit (which they refused to unsecure even after six years). The other was unsecured with a $300 limit. No credit line increase on the big one in two years although to Cap1's credit (snicker), they DID offer me a $500 increase with a $99 deposit when I closed the account! I have received no increase on the small card which I opened in November 99. I see no reason to pay another $59 annual fee on a card that offers no benefits.

i threatened to close my account and they dropped my APR to 13.9%

I had this card under a year at the time.

You opened the personal loan in 5/00. When did you pay it off? What bank was it with?

Did you carry a balance on ALL cards, then pay them in full?

I didn't pay the loan yet. I'm planning to
keep it for at least 6 months, probably
    more...

As for cards, i usually don't carry balances.
I pay in full every time. Well, at the
moment I have a balance on the Discover, but
    at 0% doesn't matter. And guess who's
gonna pay the full balance by the end of
the year, when the 14.9% kicks in..:)))
