Hi, I'm a newbie & have a royally screwed credit report with lots of paid chargeoffs on it b/c I didn't know a thing about credit. Two weeks ago, before I discovered this forum, I sent out a bunch of dispute letters to the CRAs (Experian & Equifax - about 8 or so letters to each) using the dispute templates I found online. Since reading the primer & other posts on here I learned that probably wasnt the brightest move. Im guessing that these letters could have a pretty bad effect on my credit report.
(Side question - what will most likely happen?)

My main question is: Have I really messed up any chance I had at credit repair? If I have is my best bet to wait out those 7 years? And if not (if there's still a chance I can do something), where do I go from here?

Secondary question: Do the CRAs keep the letters you send to them on file? Basically what I'm hoping is that if I did screw up by using those form dispute letters, I can wait 90 days and start over.

What type of letter did you send? What did it say? If you sent 8 different letters to the CRA all saying the same thing 1 of 2 things "could" happen...

    1. They say you're being "frivolous"
    2. They adjust the tl (deletion or verification)

    Re: Re: Possibly screwed newbie

I sent a form letter (feel so dumb for doing that now), basically saying that I dispute items such as (but diff for each letter):

2 Examples of what was on my letters:
"Incorrect Item: Paid, past due 30 days. THis account was paid and fully satisfied as per agreement w/ the lender. Please investigate and change to a positive listing."

"Incorrect Item: Paid, chargeoff. This account was never a chargeoff. Please investigate and remove from my report."

If they say I'm being frivolous are my chances blown to get this off my report? (i.e., do they keep a record of my doing this frivolous report so that each time I send them something they see this?)

I want to thank everyone who contributes to this forum, its really opened my eyes and is the best place to find info.

    yes

so, be sure to keep good records, and send all communications with tracking numbers (CMRRR or express mail)
keep all receipts and build a paper trail
this will be your best defense
