Would anyone care to help start a compilation of those who will NOT issue another account to someone that included them in a BK? We could have 3 categories:

1.) Yes, as long as credit is good now...

2.) Yes, but you must repay old discharged debt first...

3.) Not on yo' momma's grave...

Anyone want to get in oin this? I don't have any input b/c my neg's haven't dropped off yet, but I'd like to know your experiences to plan for the future.

    Thanks!

Unless there has been a change in the past few months, Nordstrom will give you a store card a couple of years after discharge as long as your credit is good. If you included Nordstrom in the BK, you can still get a card, and Nordstrom doesn't demand repayment of your discharged debt. As a Nordstrom rep told me, "That debt was legally discharged -- we can't ask you to repay it."

And the other hand, there are a lot of companies that won't give you a credit card after a bankruptcy even if they were involved.

I would be very interested in such a list as well. I can tell you that Citi is among group 3 as far as I know.

Posters here have included Amex that will not isuue you a cc if you bk or they charge-off on you. Very similar to Citibank.

My understanding is that if you are a Au on an account you are NOT responsible for the debt as oppose as being a joint account holder. I would check to be sure that the CRA reports an a Au account as such.

The general rule is that if you bk or charge-off with a company chances are they will not issue you a new credit.

I myself bk on three different Citibank accounts and do not think I will ever received future consideration from Citibank.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Citibank and Amex never forget, good companies, probably not part of my future, only a blurred past.

I was going back through historical posts on the board, and one person said that Discover will issue even if they were included in a BK as long as 5 years have passed and current credit is good. This supposedly came from reps at Discover. If this is true, they would fall into Category 1.

A Discover rep told me if you pay them back you can be eligible for a new card after six months if your credit is good. (I haven't gotten around to testing it yet, but I plan to next year. Discover was the best creditor to deal with while I was having problems, so I'd like to have a Discover card back in my wallet. Of course, I'll let everyone know if it works.)

I also remember reading Discover purges its internal records after five years, meaning you could reapply and they wouldn't know you included them in BK -- putting them into Category 1 as stated above.

even if you purge the BK from your CR as an AU, I am wondering if you are retained on the blacklist (at say amex or citi). Anybody know?

Amex takes it one step further. If you ever filed BK on them, you can"t even be an AU on another persons card.

I had an Amex for several years before my BK. I 'kept' it during the BK. They did not find out until almost 1.5 yrs after. I had a talk with the credit department and they told me they would have to suspend my account until 5 years after my BK. After a few more calls (them calling me), they decided to let me keep the account and just put me on a close 'monitor'- which I am still on until this day, 3.75 yrs after BK.

However, my CL has not been affected. I used this card for business travel and have averaged almost 8.5k a month, with a 22k month in there oince, for the past 3 years. The 'will I be approved?' link on the Amex page lets me go to 55k with no problem.

I have also heard of people being told by Amex that they will not touch you post-BK, but I was told differently myself.

Hope that helps! (or confuses you even more)

Chase reps once told me they won't touch you post-BK -- even if Chase wasn't involved and even for a fully secured card. I never tested them on this, though.
