I am trying to find a part time job, but am concerned because of the background checks which seem to apply to all employers. Does anyone know which types of employment definitely will not hire with a BK??? I realize that discrimination due to BK is unlawful, but proving it would be difficult. It seems BK is a barrier to employment as a rule. Suggestions, advice?
I can tell you (for sure) that almost any government position will check... I don't know for sure about states and localitites, but I have personally seen contractors and applicants immediately turned down for government positions for 'bad' credit. I don't know their situations/scores but at least one of them made a very comfortable living (or at least appeared too) and I cannot imagine what it could have been. FYI, as far as criminal background check, anything will flag you. I have a friend who has a 7yr old DUI- it cost him a position at two different government contracts (no names, but one was a major mortgage center and the other has a hand in airport security). However, I work for a relatively large (~40k employees) tech copmany and I was hired 1.5 yrs post BK and it didn't affect my position. It did have an impact on my security clearance, though. I had to go in for an interview before my clearance was granted (beacause of the BK). Hope this helps, Shawn
Thanks Shawn. I guess this explains why I haven't received any call backs from the Federal Government. I've applied for various clerical positions for which I am qualified, having retired from County Gov't after 26 years. Oh well. Maybe the State or County will hire me back. I appreciate your prompt reply.
I have not missed any work due to the poor credit on my previous job I have not had any accidents that were caused by my poor credit I have not had any claims that was caused by my poor credit I have not had any tickets that were caused by my poor credit I will do this job to the best of my ability
