After reading about hard vs soft pulls here in the forum, I am confused as to what is allowed and what is not.

I had a collection accnt that has since been removed, however when I rqstd vald from them, they did a soft pull on my EXP. Am I right to say they were not allowed to do this?

And maybe this is interesting for some--

--The accnt was paid off about 1 1/2 yrs ago, and it was a medical that my ins did not pay timely so it went to a CA, and I knew nothing about it until recently. I sent the HIPAA letter and a rqst for vald, stating that there never was a legitimate business reason for this going to a CA. Within 30 days of it being sent to a CA and to my CR, it was paid by the insurance. What's more, is that they admitted it was sent in error to the CA and reported to the CR. Their reason for sending it to collection was, and I qoute "your suite number was omitted from your file, therefore your account went to collections". YEAH, like that makes sense. Can I get some greens from this fiasco???

The account was paid off before you requested validation?
