I received pre-approval Chevron credit card from the mail. They offered: Save 5 cents pre gallon for 90 days, $12.00 "Free Gas" credit if you purchase 12 times in the first 90 days (8 gallons minimum per purchases) and Total savings up to 17.5 cents per galloon in the first 90 days and No annual fee. The pre-approval invitation will be expired on November 15,2004. Ron.
Sounds like a good deal compared to the one I got from First Premier yesterday: A $200 credit limit of which only $72 would be available once the card arrived due to this-and-that fees applied to the card and then an annual fee of $something ridiculous. I used the pre approved app as a dust pan to scoop up the junk off the floor after I swept the kitchen floor last night. All of it went straight in the trash.
You really should get a shredder and shred it. Throwing something like that in the trash isn't a good idea. Someone could take it, change the address, and get a card you would be responsible for.
No, I didn't throw in the trash and I already mailed during lunch time. I guess I used it instead of my other card in the first 90 days. After 90 days, I used it once a while like my other gas cards. Today I got Cap 1 business Platinum pre-select offers and this one should go to shredder. Ron.
I was actually telling broncsboi to shred his. He said he used it for a dustpan and threw it in the trash.
As long as we're talking about First Premier: Yes, you should shred their invitation. And THEN you should mail it back to them in the postage-paid envelope. Make them pay for cluttering your mailbox and wasting your time.
My texaco which switched to shell (just got my new shell cards this week) said if I fill up (at least 8 gallons per fill) at least 3 times in the next 60 days I get a 10.00 rebate. Heck that's something! My perfectcard from Chase offers 3% rebate on ALL gas purchases and the 1st 90 days I get 6% rebate on ALL gas purchases. Plan on using that puppy for those 90 days!
Ron, First let me say that I always enjoy reading your posts! My question is: exactly how many credit cards do you have? At one point I owned around 12 bankcards with a combined credit limit of about $200,000. As I approached the second half of my forties, I decided that my life was way more complicated than it needed to be. I am very busy with family (wife & 3 kids), and work. So, I decided to start controlling what I could to simplify my life. The first thing I did was start cancelling all unused or rarely used cards. I kept only my two Citi MasterCards (Platinum Select and Dividend Platinum Select) and Amex Platinum Charge. Of these, I only actively use Amex, and Dividend MasterCard in places where Amex is not accepted. Now, I don't mind getting only two bills monthly instead of 10-14 depending on use. Regards, ChesterR
Re: Re: Pre-approval Chevron Gas Card!!!!!! ChesterR, You need to be careful canceling all of your cards. That can lower your score because your ratio of used to unused credit will go up. Most of us just "sock drawer" the cards, maybe use them once or twice a year for gas or something to keep them active. You may be fine now depending on your limits, just a warning for the future.
Re: Re: Pre-approval Chevron Gas Card!!!!!! Hedwig, Appreciate the heads-up. I am a reformed credit revolver. After paying down our $40,000 debt, we (my wife and I) swore we would never run-up a balance again. We have stayed the course. I use my Amex for as many monthly purchases as I can to get the rewards and pay it off each month. To make sure there are no surprises - I logon each Friday and print the most recent charges and review them to make sure I am on budget. My regular monthly balances are about $2-3000, so my ratio even at the high end is ok. (About 7.5% utilized). Both Citi cards are at $20,000 cls. Last FICO = 758. Regards, ChesterR
