I received a pre-approved card from Household Bank and thinking they were not going to run my credit went ahead & applied. They pulled my credit & then denied me. It seems I read somewhere that that was illegal to do!! I wish I had saved the paperwork, should I write them a letter to remove the inquiry????
Nothing illegal about it, in fact it's pretty standard. You can always ask them to remove the inquiry or try to dispute it with the credit bureau, but aside from that there's not a lot you can do about it.
If it isn't illegal it should be. It gives the consumer a false impression that they are already approved for credit and the consumer is tricked into wasting an inquiry. If a document states you are "pre-approved" that would imply all you need to do is sign the paperwork and you get your card. I would threaten to sue.
SoParkDiva...you can challenge the inquiry but I doubt it will be removed. The darn CC companies are animals!!
Sorry but you can't sue The offers they send CLEARLY state PRE approved, not approved in the fine print, that you need a magnifying glass by the way to read most times, it states the offer, it usually says you meet their initial screening and if your credit is still up to par as when they offered it to you, which of course means they will pull to see if you still meet it. Please everyone remember preapproval really isn't worth much of the paper it's printed on. I have applied for some preapprovals, some I got when I knew my score was high enough and some I didn't when I thought my score may or may have not done it.
Re: Re: Preapproved Card And Inquiry AND WHAT IS STUPID ABOUT IT IS..."IF" you have "BETTER" credit than 2 or 3 months ago...when they printed the offer...and owe "WAY LESS" money...you can still be DENIED!!!
