I am curious about this. Before I started cleaning up my credit, I used to get the preapproved offers for the sub-prime cards all the time. My scores have risen dramatically in the past few months but I have not received any pre approved offers in almost 4 months. Is this because I am past the subprime stage but maybe not into prime yet? My scores are in the mid 600's. Anybody have this happen to them in their credit journey?

But was there a long lull in between the subprime and prime offers where you didn't get any offers/

LKH: I kept getting preapprovals while my score was in mid 600s - but all were subprime and shredded accordingly.

I then decided to opt-out until my score hits the 700 mark. Also, it's been suggested that promotional INQs hurt your score, too, so the mere act of opting-out may (after a while) get you closer to where you want to be.

Besides, it cuts CRA revenue, which is a very worthy cause.

I haven't checked on my score, but I'm not getting the pre-approvals anymore...due, I'm sure to opening so many accounts in a short time...from April to July got pre-approvals and opened BOA, Citi, AT&T, Discover and Penney's. I'm sure that lowered my score.

I've opted out and I still get the gamut - super subprime 23.99% no deposit required all the way to Fleet, MBNA, and Chase platinum 0% BT's - stuff I know I wouldn't qualify for. Depends on which lists you're on, I imagine.

The thing that boggles the mind is when you get preapproval offers for cards you already have!!! I have never tried capitalizing on this and definitely have one ssn, but my name is spelled incorrectly on my state id. For this reason, I usually get summoned for jury duty twice and have had voter registration packets in duplicates. So I am wondering if I get these preapprovals for that same reason. I got ticked because when I didn't know Aria was Providian classic, I got a preapprovall and applied and was promptly denied because at that time, you could not have two visas or credit cards (forget which) and that dinged my report. Imagine that, an unsolicitted offer and dinged because of their error.
