I recently signed up with cobaltcard to get a prepaid (NOT secured) credit card. I'm trying to move toward debt-freedomness (yep, coined my own phrase) and now, I have no excuse to keep any of my "active" cards "active" (I'm planning on settling them.) I have no immediate need for loans, etc. for a while (I'm only 22, have a secure apt, etc.)

I just wanted to share this with you guys. They throw 20 bucks onto it for a limited time, and you can use it anywhere Visa is taken. It's pre-funded, unlike debit cards which draw from a checking account. No way to overdraw!

The scariest part about bad credit is when you try to recover from it, you incur more debt. I don't want that anymore. :)

No, they don't report to the credit bureaus, check credit or Chexsystems, although they do use Telecheck, they apparently don't decline because of an entry. They just make sure you pay Telecheck back before they let you put money on your account.

Anyways, here's 2 options for those who need to have a credit card (for renting hotel rooms, etc.) but don't want to incur debt:

    www.cobaltcard.com
    www.pocketcard.com

Pocket card charges a fee of 15 bucks per year, but they also have business accounts and let you put more money on the card.

    Thanks!

Do they have any plans for Canadian citizens living in Canada. E-mail ter3ry@hotmail.com with any pertinent information please.
