Are any of you aware of "internal" TransUnion purge dates that are not disclosed in the credit report consumers received?

I was confused and concerned about what date that is indicated in the TUs report to use as the count off for the 7 year reporting period. I contacted TU to find out, only to be told by the TU representative that TU has an "internal" date that is NOT available to the public via their credit report. Upon finding this out, I asked to receive the "internal" purge date information for each negative tradeline of mine, both accurate and alleged. I was informed that in most instances the "internal" purge date is earlier than the date posted or sometimes the date in which the account was closed/charged off, etc., which is fine.

However, my main concern at that time was illegal re-aging of account. I specifically mentioned this to the TU rep and she advised to keep the "internal" dates that I was given and dispute if any were re-aged (she then ended the comment with YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). I specifically asked if creditors had access to this "internal" date and was told YES. To me this means that the creditor can view this "internal" date **** and have this information basically changed to their continued benefit, and we consumers wouldn't have a leg to stand on as proof of illegal re-aging.

A few days after receiving this information, I called TU again and asked about this information. This time another rep tried to tell me to go by the status date. I insisted that another TU rep told me that TU ROUTINELY maintains "internal" purge date. I again asked for information for each file. The rep put me on hold and came back to me and said "YES" there is internal purge dates for some accounts, and I asked for confirmation of all purge dates for negative accounts which she proceeded to give me and verified everything that the 1st rep originally told me.

On February 21, 2002, I sent a spreadsheet to TU with their "internal" purge date information and requested written confirmation of same. Today, I just received mumbo/jumbo from TU, informing me how they determine the purge date for each tradeline. They did not confirm my written request for confirmation of purge dates.

Have any of you experienced or heard of this so-called "internal" account with TU? I am concerned as several of my negative accounts have been re-aged in my Experian account. The good thing is I have proof of this re-aging. Particularly, one trade line that should have purged Year 2000, but was re-aged an entire 7 year reporting period. Currently disputing with said evidence of re-aging.

Any advice on how to proceed in getting TU to provide written confirmation of purge dates? Could I use Freedom of Information Act?

    HELP!!!!!

I have talked to a EXP rep about getting things off of my credit profile and was told something similar. My example is my BK that is NINE and a HALF years old. My intention was to politely ask that this info be removed. She said no, it had to saty on for the full ten years. But as our conversation progressed, she did mention that some tradelines are deleted ahead of the reported deleted date. I don't remember exact conversation but my understanding was that items can fall off several months early. My assumption is that this was there own internal "insurance", so to speak, that negative items do not remain one day longer that they legally should. I have worked in financial IT departments for the last 7 years. Internal schedules are not uncommon but should work in favor of the customer/consumer. ( I do not work for the CRAs).

This is not something that I think they would confirm to you in writing. I remember talking to TU about the same thing and the gentlman on the phone was curt and rude and told me it would stay on for the full ten years. He said it was not possible for it to be deleted any sooner. I spoke with him after EXP. , so I realized they probably have a similar process for data purges.

Interesting. They will not let a bk hit OVER 10 years as it would violate the fcra. The fcra say nothing of a minimum it must stay, only that it cannot stay any longer than 10 years. I have been told it will purge approx 3 mos before the 10 year mark as a safety... so they don't violate the 10 year limit.

watch your reports closely. Pull a copy the day after it is to purge... and see if it's there. If it is, apply for online credit and sue the bureau for the declined credit line and damages.

    FYI:

I am also concerned about files maintained on us but not disclosed for the purposes of employment over 75k.

I cannot and have not been given any different reports even when I have requested them... I have been told there is no other file maintained. but if there is not one there... why does it state that additional information that has "dropped" from the file may be given to a prospective employer if it's for a job over 75k...

You know I have never been actively involved in any movement, but it's been approximately 5 years since the last amendment to the FCRA and I would be very interested in participating and help push for further regulatory statutes for credit bureaus. To some extent we are still at the mercy of the CRAs.

    Marie,

I have that same concern. For the past two years I have worked as a temp/consultant and for each contract/company that pulls a credit report, I request a copy from the CRA. The requesting company will only provide the DMV report and criminal summary, but the credit profile copy I have to request on my own. So of course i get the usual copy that I would get anyway. I have been suspicious about this but I have not thought of a way to confirm if there is a difference or how to get a copy.

As to the time limits, when talking to TU, he did not say "may" stay on your credit profile for ten years, he said "shall" remain for ten years. The FCRA has no minimum but they want the public to believe that.
