Has anyone else received a letter (not on letterhead, BTW) from Providian Class Action Case noting a refund.
I received one today and I am not sure what to do with it, When I disputed Providan earlier this year, it came back verified, but now it appears that since I was a card holder, I got a portion of the settlement dollars.

    Here is an excerpt:
"Under the settlement, Providian has the right to credit refunds to outstanding balances on closed accounts. You may dispute the application of this rule to you based on circumstances particular to you-for example, if you contend that you do not in fact owe any money to Providian. (You should note, however, that having your debts discharged in bankruptcy is not a sufficient reason for disputing Providian's right to credit your refund directly to your account.)

    cont.
"If you dispute that Providian has the right to credit your $XXX.XX refund toward the above outstanding balance, you must fill out the form enclosed and submit it by first-class mail to be received by Providian on or before Oct. 15, 2002, at the following address..."

    Ok, hmmm, now what?
The first part of the letter states that "the amount of credit was calculated under the terms and conditions set forth in the Class Action Settlement Notice previously sent to you". Um I have never received this notice! I have a balance with Providan that was turned over to EA Servivcing (which I am assuming is a CA, but they are not on my CR, only Providan is. Are they one and the same. Can I now dispute Providan due if I state that I have never had an account and I do not want their refund? They attached a form letter in which I can "dispute the right to credit my refund toward the outstanding balance on the above -mentioned account. I do not owe Providian any money because:"

Should I fill this out that I have never had an account with them? In order to get rid of them and then dispute my CR's.

    Opinions?

I never got a letter or anything of any kind. One day when I checked my Providian bill online I noticed a credit in the amount of $10.00 and beside it said Providian Class Action Lawsuit. That's it.
