Hey all, I'm a newbie so be nice? I've been all around this board, and this has probably been asked before, but the Search is so slow I'll ask again. I received my blessed APR increase letter from Providian today. I believe I'm going from 23 to 28 with the letter, which is just crazy. I've always paid on time, more than the amount, and recently received a 1000 CL increase from them. So, I'd like to close the account. I owe approximately 1200$ on the card right now, which will take at least a few months to pay off. I called to ask about the closing process, and she said (if I can believe her) that I have until Nov 1 to close the account and keep the same APR until it's paid off. Has anyone done this? How does it report on the credit reports? Am I going to shoot myself in the foot whether I close or not? Also, I just recently accepted a Capital One card, but it only has a 250$ CL. In an ideal world, I'd like to transfer the Providian balance to the new Cap1 card, but the CL is too low of course. Is there any incentive Cap1 has for raising my CL and accepting the transfer if I ask? Also, I have an Orchard card with a low credit limit. It's also in good standing (as is the providian). I've had the Orchard and Providian for the same amount of time. Orchard is very slow for Credit Limit increases, though. But, my calls to them have always been pleasant experiences. Anyone have any experience on Orchard CL increases? I'm hoping I can build up a good trustworthy relationship with Cap1 like Orchard. Providian has been OK, but right about now, they're really stinking. Ducky
Hi Ducky, Welcome to the board! Try contacting this person at Household Bank: Barbara Sedan Household Bank 2700 Sanders Road Prospect Heights, IL 60074-2799 908.203.2461 847.205.7427 (fax) Consider faxing your request to her versus mailing it. In about 10 days you will receive a response from Ms. Donna M. Dion. She is the Executive Liaison to the Office of the President. If you prefer to contact her directly, her info is: Credit Card Services PO Box 81622 Salinas, CA 93912 1.800.477.6000 They lowered my APR to 15.9% and gave me a $500 credit line increase. I think it's worth a try. Good luck!!!
Which address is the one for Providian? My fiance received the same letter, and I would like to write a letter as well. Thanks for the info.
Maybe they're trying to finance their class action settlement. They have to pay a county in California something like 5.9 billion dollars which doesn't make sense. It's the consumers who got screwed! I have never been late on my providian card. I have a secured card, so when I got the card, my credit was bad. Well, my credit is much better now, and they are using the excuse of my credit! B.S.
Sent Cap1 question through PFB. I'm a new customer, I doubt they'll help. I contacted Orchard's phone people, and they offered 100 CL increase. I'm going to seek out the Orchard lady mentioned above, and I can fax. Also sent Providian feedback through PFB, why not. I'm so disappointed in Providian right now. I've been a good customer and I've been profitable to them. My only gleam of hope is that they make such poor decisions maybe they'll be out of business soon. Ducky
