Here's an article on Providian turning away from the sub-prime market and going after the prime market. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/business/20040209-1338-ca-providianmakeover.html Best regards, Mirage
Interesting. And they intend to give you updated FICO scores? I bet it'll be another credit monitoring service. Although, to be FICO, I wouldn't mind a cheap subscription to myfico.com.
Not a monitoring service.....Free access to your FICO score which will be on your on-line statement, so every billing period, the FICO scrore will change. It is only TU FICO however. I suppose there will be a link to MyFICO to get discounts on the other 2.
Going through my own credit repair odyssey, I have compiled my own blacklist. In order of most offensive I have only three: 1) Experian 2) American Agencies 3) Providian There is no redemption for these guys. Exp will always be evil, American Agencies should just be given a desist and refrain order, and Providian will always be jerks.
Might I ask why, specifically? I mean...we all have bad experiences with credit cards/agencies....but most of the time honestly it when WE get into trouble and are trying to dig ourselves out. Amex is on my hate list...but I'm sure I'll have one again someday. I was an authorized user on a Corporate account....for travel expenses. My company reorg'ed and refused to pay the final expenses of departing employees. They simply said to Amex "ain't ours...we're not paying"..and they came after me, even with much explanation. The really crappy thing is that I worked there for years...and had the card the whole time...and not once did AMEX appear on my CR before that...so I got NO upside from it as a TL, but all the bad crap when they put it on there as a CO. What was your negative experience with Providian?
I didn't know about these boards when I repaired most of my derog. credit items. Almost all, except one or two, I was able to settle for deletion. Not with Providian. IMHO, PVN and the ca's they contract with, engage in some hardball tactics to collect on their accounts. PVN was not my account, it was dh's. I was told by the CA of PVN they would settle for $xx for deletion, in which I wrote them a post-dated check. When the CA refused to provide the letter, I cancelled the check and closed the checking account. That is when things got ugly. The Ca for PVN would call me several times a day, hang the phone up on me, call me early on the weekend mornings, hang up and call right back again in another 20 minutes, often waking me up. I would ask them to not call, tell them I am sleeping and not to call again at this hour, and so on. Often times, they would call me and then call again in another half hour ago, claiming they forgot they just called me a few minutes ago. This went on for several months. If I had known about these boards at the time, I would have sued both CA and PVN under Cali law for FDCPA violations (state version) and I definetely would have given the CA for PVN a letter requesting a cease communiction be ceased by telephone. I had called PVN several times throughout this time, but each time PVN refused to help or pull the account away from their CA. PVN themselves were very rude to me when I asked them to take the account away from the ca. I didn't have a problem paying the account off in full, but I would not have been so quick to pay without negotiating a better credit rating for dh. Eventually, my biggest mistake in credit repair was just giving into the harassing phone calls and paying. I lost all my leverage to negotiate a better rating once I agreed to pay the CA just to get them to stop calling me. This was the only derog. account I paid without a letter of deletion. Although I didn't know about these boards at the time, I knew a paid settled charge-off report was still a FICO killer. But like I said, I couldn't take the phone calls and PVN wasn't about to do anything about it. On the bright side, I discovered PVN had done some non-pp's on my credit report. While I was outside of the SOL for the constant phone calls, I was still within the SOL for the non-pp's and filed against PVN in small claims, and we settled.
"Due to this month's FICO score changing by - 2 points Your APR will hereafter be increased to 29.99% Have a nice day!"
I just got a $3000 CL Providian card with a 778 TU FICO and their customer service has been very responsive and helpful so far. We will see if that continues, but as of right now, I am happy with the card.
Providian high interests rates kept me from using their cards. I have transferred my balances often. However, I do think something is changing. I've always received good limit increases from them and recently I got an offer for balance transfer at 1.99% until July of 04. However, I was carrying a balance at the time of the offer at 16.9%. I paid it off and did the transfer (within 2 days of the expiration date of the offer). There was no balance transfer fee.
After reading the previous posting this in thread and link, I received Providian's new makeover credit card offer in the mail. It's for their platinum card. The offer says I'm PRE-APPROVED and the application is very simple to fill out. ( its doesnt even ask for my place of employment ) According to the application, it says " you've received this offer because a credit report obtained from a consumer agency showed that you've met our credit requirements..." Has anyone received this offer? and does anyone know if they pull a hard inquiry if I apply for this card? Any feedback will help. Thank,
If you accept yes of corse they will pull a hard, anytime you get a credit card they will. I accepted and they pulled both Eq and TU.
Re: Re: Providian changing? They pulled both EQ and TU as a hard? Wow! Do you mind saying in what state you are? Iâ??ve also received this â??Platinumâ? offer, and wanted to check how good/not good they are. Thanks, Denny
Re: Re: Providian changing? DH got offer, and did apply Friday afternoon, no pulls yet, but will let you know..we are TX...hope it's not 2..ugh..
Re: Re: Re: Providian changing? Good luck Nana. I look forward to your post. The reason for my earlier post too, was I also recieved a Cheveron "Pre-Approved" Offer and they didnt pull a hard on me either and the application for new Providian offer was just as simple to fill out too.
Re: Re: Re: Providian changing? I was in TX at the time, so be ready for 2 hards. Atleast it wasn't like Circuit City who pulled 2 hards within a week on the same report.... I still gotta get one of thoose off.
Re: Re: Re: Providian changing? OK, update...DH accepted offer Friday evening..as of this AM, no pulls anywhere..
