In March I cashed a conveinance check from Providian on the understanding the cash balance is paid off first when payments are made to my account. I planned to pay off the cash balance this month. Today I learn the manager I spoke with made a mistake in what she told me. The cash balance is first but it is only a percentage. I understood payments made in excess of the cash balance would eliminate it. I asked for fees to be credited to my account due to the misunderstanding. And, I got a no. At this point, what should I do? I have a fax number and would like to file a complaint.
Cancel the card pay off the balance and move on. Providian is in a death spiral already. I don't think you're going to get much CS right now from them.
PFB them, I had fairly good success with them. Also, many people here have had fees waived in posts I have read, so its worth a shot.
1. I'm confused. normally their cash advance rate is the same as purchases so what does it matter what segment it's in? 2. If you used a promotional cash advance check, they normally send those out as a promotion with NO FEES attached to the check. Did yours not say that??? because they're doing lots of fee free cash advance promotions lately. you may want to check your offer and see if you've been mistakenly charged fees. 3. as to getting the fees credited, if they've made a mistake you may have a chance getting the fee credited. try the executive office using planetfeedback. While you're at it, make sure you are at their best rate for nonplatinum which is 16.9. they won't do much for customer satisfaction, but sometimes they'll also credit a month of interest to soothe you. try. but their guidelines are now tighter that the company is in the toilet.
I should like to clear up my post. I received no fees for cashing the check, but the check's apr is 19.8. I understand the check accrues interest at a higher rate than my purchases at 19.8. I was upset with the manager because I was told that once I made payments, the check's cash advance was paid first. It is, but other considerations are in the formula. So I have learned that I must pay off the entire balance to avoid further cash advance interest. Thank you all for your responses.
MOST credit cards "PAY" the lowest rate first...CASH ADVANCES are usually last. They basically say we can post the payment "ANY WAY WE CHOOSE"
