I had a providian card from 200-2003. Kept a pretty high balance (80% or so) for most of the time, but NEVER late on payment.

Most payments were for double or so the min. payment.

In mid 2003, Providian send letter saying it is closing my account. When I call to ask why, there is recording giving address to write to to ask. Evidently they must have sold some card unit or something.

Account payoff information was given...we paid lump sum amount and took it out of our bill payer accounts. Two months later, get letter saying we are over 30 days late for some small amount (about $86 or so). We pay immediately.

Account shows Pays As Agreed/CLosed at consumer request...BUT has a 30+ day late from July on it, which is negatively hitting me. No other late for the past 4 years or so, so I know that is the one "Late payment" negative that is hitting me.

Any ideas how to handle this now that it's a done deal?

    Nutcase letter?

Suggest the word "fraud" feature in your nutcase to Providian (or whoever owned the account when you paid it). If they give you a payoff figure, then delay billing for some remainder, and then nail you for a 30 day late, I'd call that fraud.
