Providian credit line DECREASE!!!

    I have had two providian accounts(1 since 1998, the other since 2000). I have never been laid and have carried a balance. I should be a dream customer for them. Received two letters today informing me that the credit line on Card #1 was being reduced from 4900 to 4700 and reduced on Card #2 from 3600 to 3400. I don't know who is running the show show over there but could they be any more clueless? I was already in the process of paying off and closing due to their loan shark like increase to 29.99% but this will seal the deal. I was going to try and keep the older card around because it is one of my older accounts but no more.

    Why piss off a good customer even more for the skae of lowering a 4900 credit limit by 200 dollars? It just doesn't make any sense.

    I think they are trying to induce overlimit fees by lowering credit lines of those who are near or approaching their credit limits.

    Hi Das - had to read this one...
    you were just like me - perfect dream customer.
    This again shows Providian Corps instability - I am certain we will see more lines decreased and posted.

    Again, it they lower CLs across the customer base,
    many will have a very low limit - which of course can be overshot by 10% which picks up the $30 late chrge - which accrues at 29% - probably higher ....

    I am glad I got the reference from them - but who wants to ever do business with a company that might indeed screw you every month - and in Providian's case - they are desperate fiancially, and CHASE already took the super prime.

    They are hurting - and yes - it would irrittae the hell out of me if somebody reduced my CL - particularly for a lousy $200. LOL!!

    ANOTHER EXAMPLE of how this Board and internet communications keep people around the world with up to the second information about all companies.

    Providian was largely uniformly buried because all the customers were talking to each other about every devious tactic.

    Companies are screwed when they screw us...

    200 CL decrease and shoddy treatment by Providian is apparently the least of my problems. "I have never been LATE"

    Don't feel bad, I had Providian since 1998 also, never missed a payment. They closed my account without telling me. I have a call into the executive offices to find out what is going on.

    The more and more I hear of everything that's going on w/ Providian, the more I wanna tell these mofo's TOODLES!

    When I was laid off I had to use my Providian cards but I'm going to spend the next 3 months paying them off and closing! I'll admit, they were good to their customers in the beginning but then things went sour.

    This same BS happened to me on my Getsmart card;they stated that they were decreasing my line by $180.00 due to my "credit behavior".

    Well,I called them & cancelled that piece of crap without blinking.

    They sent a letter dated 3/8/2002 notifying me of this,& I promptly responded with what was eventually to occur.

    Me too. Got a letter dated May 10, saying on May 15, they were decreasing my credit line by about $400. It was very close to what my balance was.

    I have two accounts with them and anticipate I'll get another letter. They didn't say why, just said, "based on info we got from Experian" blah blah blah.

    So I called and asked why and the CSR said she'd send me a letter.

    I've been toying with the idea of closing them...both of them. I was going to pay them down and have them paid off by the end of the year. I'm going to pay them down then transfer the balance to my Cap One Plat card.
