WOKE up this morning and saw on the news that PROVIDIAN VISA, in Pleasanton, CA, evacuated 12 employees due to receiving a letter containing a powder. Of course, they are testing for Anthrax. Great - now it is in the SF area - if this tests positive. Providian will probably make the exposed employees pay back their wages for the day - because they took time off! Sorry for the sarcasm but it helps relieve pressures PROBABLY - Providian would be the likeliest bank that had or has some extremely disgruntled customers. This is probably a copycat stunt - if there is no Anthrax - just to screw them up. I don't think anyone should ever do anything like this - but AMEX and Citi didn't get targeted. RENO got cleared - good - but I hear SONY and others on West Coast are receiving possible anthrax threats. I am glad I got the Flag Card - and - thanks for the advice - I will call them and try to get it w/o the $9.95 charge. Later - be safe all - and keep a sense of humor - IT HELPS! Dogman
Great. Now every crackpot who's got a beef with anyone can put some baby powder in an envelope and wreak havoc. ARGH!!!!! Anyone who takes advantage of our collective "heightened awareness" (a/k/a feeling of vulnerability) should get a doubled or tripled fine/sentence (i.e. the whack-job who made the "slitting throat" gesture on the American flight last week and was removed in Louisiana). Re civil rights - I have mixed views under the circumstances, but generally speaking, these monsters have said they want to kill us all - gotta keep that in mind.
another thought.... ... on the libertarian vs conservatism points of view in the current situation - what we have in this country (democracy) absolutely depends on both points of view existing side by side and fighting with each other, because it is the "process" of reconciling opposite points of view that makes a democracy. So you can wave the flag and be a card-carrying ACLU member, IMO. And we can still count on the process, because neither side is going to give up, no matter what the terrorists do.

EXTREME SARCASM 4 FUN ONLY... interesting that Providian Financial did not get IMMEDIATE approval or denial of Anthrax. Imagine Providian went to the FCC and Center for Disease Control for immediate approval of anthrax - like a Visa card! Then they get a computer response message: "The FCC and CDC are still processing your request, and a decision concerning the outcome will be mailed to you with 10 business days...."
