Well, the goodwill letter was worth a shot, but Providian just called me at work, no less, to tell me they can't delete the lates, despite it being such a rough time for me last year. *sigh* CRAs keep on verifying, so it looks like it's time for the good ol' nutcase approach, because this one is my WORST account with a bunch of 30, 60, and 90 day lates, all from 2002.
